Laurelie Nattress
Laurelie Nattress
Laurelie Nattress holds baccalaureate degrees in science, music, and education from the University of Alberta, a graduate diploma in Wind Band Literature and Conducting from the University of Calgary, and a master’s degree in Band Conducting from the University of Oregon. Laurelie has been active as an adjudicator, teacher, private instructor, and saxophonist. Her teaching experience includes all levels of musicians from kindergarten through university. Recently she retired as the longest serving conductor and music director of the St. Albert Community Band, an organization that received recognition and awards at local, provincial, and national levels under Laurelie’s baton.

Dr. Kevin Zakresky
Dr. Kevin Zakresky
Dr. Kevin Zakresky was appointed Assistant Conductor of Chor Leoni Men’s Choir in 2010 and is also on faculty at Simon Fraser University. Increasingly in demand as both a choral conductor and early music specialist, Dr. Zakresky serves as an adjudicator and clinician throughout western Canada. He also volunteers for Musicians without Borders in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Brad Mahon
Dr. Brad Mahon
Dr. Brad Mahon has appeared throughout the United States, Portugal, and across his native Canada as an award-winning and acclaimed guitarist, educator, recording artist, and scholar. He has been a member of the music faculty at Mount Royal University since 1997 where he instructs guitar, coaches ensembles, and administrates the Strings program.

Margaret King
Margaret King
Margaret King earned her Bachelor of Music in piano performance studying with Glen Montgomery at the University of Lethbridge. Since moving to Edmonton in 1995 she has been fortunate to work with numerous choirs/choral programs including the Cantilon Choirs, Singspiration, Edmonton Children’s Choir, the Greenwood Singers and Pro Coro Canada. As well, Margaret enjoys her work as a collaborative pianist. Margaret loves writing music. Two of her pieces for treble choir, The Unsuitable Suitor and Norwegian Trilogy, are published by Boosey and Hawkes. Her most recent composition,Transformations was commissioned by Belle Canto in January 2010.

Dawn Sadoway
Dawn Sadoway
Dawn Sadoway is thrilled to be back in Alberta after spending the past three years on Prince Edward Island as the Artistic Director of the King’s Theatre School and Players. Dawn has been teaching music, drama, art and musical theatre for over 20 years. Besides conducting the Elk Island Senior Honour Choir, Dawn is excited to be teaching drama at the University of Alberta as well as working on her MFA with the Drama Department, majoring in Vocal Pedagogy.

Dr. Bianca Baciu
Dr. Bianca Baciu has led an active career as soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue. She has performed throughout Europe and North America. Dr. Baciu’s live performances have been broadcast on CBC Radio 2 (Canada), WDR (Koln, Germany), and Radio Romania Tineret (Romania). In addition to her administrative and performance engagements, Dr. Baciu is a dedicated teacher and a sought-after clinician and adjudicator. She currently teaches piano and piano literature at Alberta College, Grant MacEwan University, and also maintains a full private teaching studio in Edmonton.

Kathy Dornian
Kathy Dornian
A native Calgarian, Kathy Dornian is a nationally respected pedagogue, chamber musician, adjudicator and examiner. She earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Education and Kodaly Fine Arts Diploma from the University of Calgary. Her education was enriched by postgraduate performance studies at the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. Since 1985, Kathy Dornian has served on faculty at Mount Royal University Conservatory where she pursues an extensive and versatile career as a musician. She is also a visiting faculty member at the prestigious Middle School in Beijing, China. Known as a kind, inspiring and imaginative educator who fosters keenness and curiosity in her students, she is certainly one of Calgary’s most sought-after and in-demand teachers.

Kristina Brown
Kristina Brown
Kristina Brown has recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Master of Music degree in piano performance.  With more than 10 years of teaching experience, Kristina, an enthusiastic pedagogue, has a full studio of students ranging from beginner to advanced. She also divides her time between accompanying vocal students at Ambrose University and music responsibilities at her church in High River.

Carmen Kulak
Carmen Kulak
Carmen Kulak earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta. She currently has a successful private piano studio in Stony Plain, Alberta where she teaches students of all ages and levels. She is frequently called on to accompany voice and violin students in and around the Edmonton area and is an active member and coordinator of the music ministry at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Stony Plain. Carmen has a deep commitment to furthering music education in her community, and hopes to inspire a love of music for each of her students.

Thomas Schoen
Thomas Schoen
Thomas Schoen was born in Dawson Creek, B.C., has a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the University of British Columbia, and has studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and Suzuki Institutes in Calgary and Edmonton. Thomas currently resides in Edmonton and enjoys a busy and varied performing career as a recitalist, chamber, and orchestral musician, performing on both modern and baroque violins. Mr. Schoen has extensive experience teaching and adjudicating in both British Columbia and Alberta. He is currently violin instructor at the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta, as well as teaching for the Society for Talent Education in Edmonton, and privately in his home studio. In addition to his teaching duties, Thomas is also director of the Alberta Summer Suzuki Institute 2012, to be held in Edmonton in July.
