Festival Chairman’s Message

Alan Murdock
Chair, Board of Directors
Welcome to Music Festival 2012. This is the 35th anniversary of the St. Albert Music Festival and the 18th year that it has been sponsored and organized by the Rotary Club of St. Albert Music Festival Association. We are a registered charitable organization incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta.

Ours is a Music Festival with a difference. We have dedicated our efforts to foster a love of performance in our youth. Our adjudicators all have national if not international professional reputations. Their evaluations are presented in a supportive and positive manner with an education focus. Our goal is to build self-esteem and confidence in performance.

Community involvement is a second key component of our Festival. With more than 200 volunteers, we have more St. Albertans contributing their time than any of the other Music Festivals in Alberta. Our community churches have also been marvelous hosts to our musicians throughout our history. We take considerable pride in offering an atmosphere which fosters this amount of community involvement.

Our participation rates have gone up over the past 5 years. In our 2011 Music Festival we held 60 sessions, which included 920 entries with a total of 2,200 performers. In 2011 we presented 79 different scholarships ranging from $150 to $1,000. We look forward to a continuing increase in 2012.

At the same time, costs are rising. Registration fees cover 30% of the operating expenses. The Rotary Club of St. Albert and its members contribute another 30%. The remainder of our income comes from individuals and businesses with intermittent, although much appreciated, financial support from our City Council and Provincial Government.

We have been fortunate over the years to have a broad range of sponsors. We are most appreciative of nearly two decades of continuing support from the St. Albert Gazette and Don’s Piano Warehouse. View our list of current sponsors ».

BUT WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

Please contact us at sarmf@telus.net if you would like to make a contribution. We have a range of ways which your donation can be directed in a positive and supportive manner in keeping with our overall philosophy. Tax receipts will be provided if requested.
